Our Mission
Aquidneck Island Robotics is a community-based nonprofit that makes mentor-led robotics programs accessible to students from elementary through high school across Rhode Island, building the skills and confidence to lead in science and technology.
Aquidneck Island Robotics began in 2008 as a 4-H club with one robotics team, two mentors, and five students. Today AIR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with 80+ student members and 30+ volunteer mentors, and our FRC Team 78 AIR STRIKE has roots going back to 1996.
The largest community youth robotics organization in Rhode Island.
Students join us from across Rhode Island
Our members come from 13 communities, from East Providence to Newport, and attend public, private, and home schools. Membership scholarships mean any student can participate, whatever their family's budget.
Robotics for every age
AIR teams compete in FIRST, a worldwide robotics program. We operate the following teams:
FIRST Lego League Explore (grades 2–3)
FIRST Lego League Challenge (grades 4–8)
FIRST Robotics Competition (grades 8–12)
Our FRC team, 78 AIR STRIKE, earned 14 consecutive World Championship berths from 2010 to 2025, with a best finish of 5th in the world in 2024.
